Gleaners Food Bank
Outreach of Speedway Christian Church
Helping those who help those inneed
Each year, Gleaners serves more than 237,000 Hoosiers in 21 counties.
How do we reach so many people? Through their partnerships with more than 400 not-for-profit hunger-relief programs. Gleaners provides food and grocery items to food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters and residential care centers —IRS-certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that feed people at no cost to the client.
Gleaners’ member charities are located in the central and southeastern regions of the state. Those counties are: Bartholomew, Boone, Decatur, Fayette, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Jackson, Jefferson, Jennings, Johnson, Marion, Morgan, Putnam, Ripley, Rush, Scott, Shelby, Union and Wayne.
In addition, Gleaners' direct-service Commodity Supplemental Food Program serves seniors in Davies, Knox and Vermillion counties.
Gleaners began delivering BackSacks in 2006 and has continually strived to improve and expand the program. This year, for the first time, Gleaners is proud to offer the BackSack program to schools in all 21 counties throughout its service area. Watch the video below on how this is possible.
Speedway Christian Church schedules volunteer time at Gleaners the 3rd Saturday of every other month starting in January. We meet in the church parking lot at 9:00am and travel to the Gleaner’s facility. Out work day is over by 12:30.
