Christian Education - Youth

Nursery and Preschool

9:00 a.m.–11:30 a.m.
Babies through 4-year-olds
Room 101

We offer childcare for babies and children up to four years old. Using stories, fun activities, and coloring sheets, the children are introduced to simple Bible truths and faith-based themes. We also send out monthly emails to families with children from birth through two years old to share key developmental and faith development milestones.

Wonder and Whirl

9:15 a.m.-10:00 a.m.
5-year-olds through fifth graders
Room 207

Children are welcomed to the classroom with an opening conversation and activity that introduces them to the Bible theme. After watching the Whirl animated kids’ short video, the children use their Bible and Whirl storybook to learn and discuss the Bible story. The children then respond to the message with Bible-based activities in their leaflets and through fun games.

Journey in Faith

9:15 a.m.-10:00 a.m.
Sixth graders
September through April
Room B2

Journey in Faith is a class for sixth graders that meets September through April. Students are guided by a teacher and invited to explore their faith through dialogue, based around open-ended questions, Bible story and scripture exploration, and anecdotal stories from current events, peers, and classroom visitors. Students are paired with an adult member of the church community to join them on their journey. The class encourages students to take what they have learned in church and outside of church and apply it to their lives, ultimately allowing them to acknowledge and articulate what they personally believe to be true about God, Jesus, faith, and their own purpose. Class culminates in baptism if the student feels ready to take this step and make this public declaration of their faith.

Worship and Wonder

10:15 a.m.
4-year-olds through second graders
Children leave with their teacher after Children's Moment.
Room 203

Worship and Wonder was created to make a special place where children can come to encounter God… to be still with God and to listen to God. It is a place where children come to nurture their spiritual life. It presents a joyful way for children to worship God through a unique storytelling format and multi-sensory materials. Old Testament stories are told in the sandbox using wooden figurines. Parables are precious like gold, so these stories are in golden boxes. New Testament stories are told with wooden figurines and felt underlays. The children respond to the stories with a variety of art materials and drama. We worship by lighting the Christ candle and reading the story from the Bible.

Adventure in Faith

10:15 a.m.-11:15 a.m.
Third graders through sixth graders
Children leave with their teacher after Children's Moment.
Room 207

The Adventure in Faith class is focused on taking what children this age have already learned about their faith and applying it to their daily lives.  Using the Bible, a short video, and class discussion, the children learn Bible stories and faith themes. Then through activities and games, the children learn how the stories apply to them today and how they can show God's love through their words and actions.

Noisy Offering

10:15 a.m. ~ First Thursday/Sunday of each month
Sanctuary

On the first Thursday/Sunday of each month, the children of the church collect a "noisy" offering. They go through the sanctuary with coffee cans collecting coins and dollars. Four times a year, the children vote on a charity to which to send the money they have collected. This allows the children a chance to actively follow Jesus by experiencing the joy of giving to others. The children of SCC have sent money to many different organizations. They have purchased two llamas and two flocks of chickens through Heifer International. They have donated money to Central Christian Church for clothing for children, The Storehouse Food Pantry for food, and Christmas gifts for foster children. They even have sent money for hurricane relief. The Noisy Offering is collected at all three worship services.
