As Believers in Jesus Christ?
We confess that Jesus is the Christ,
the Son of the living God,
and proclaim him Lord and Savior of the world.
-From the Preamble of the Design for the Christian
Church (Disciples of Christ)
While the Disciples of Christ value freedom and diversity, there are several ways
in which Disciples have traditionally expressed their common faith in Christ.
- Open Communion. The Lord’s Supper (or Communion) is celebrated each week
in worship. Anyone who believes in Jesus Christ is welcome to partake in the
symbolic body and blood of Jesus Christ.
- Baptism by immersion. Baptism is the rite by which all Christians enter into
the life of discipleship. In baptism, the old self-centered life is set aside,
and the believer enters into a new life in Christ.
- Belief in the oneness of the church. Though many barriers divide communities
against one another, Christ unites all believers in common witness and service.
- The ministry of all believers. Both ministers and lay persons can lead in
all aspects of worship, service and spiritual growth.

As a Denomination?
In essentials, unity;
In nonessentials, liberty;
In all things, charity.
-early Disciples motto, attributed to Rupertus Meldenius
Speedway Christian Church is a congregation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
The Christian Church (DOC) is a denomination that seeks to be the Body of Christ by valuing
freedom and diversity among all those who claim themselves as members. Congregations and members
are free to search for ways to explore and express their faith in Jesus Christ through worship and
various kinds of ministry.
While local congregations are not tied into a hierarchical authority structure, they do live in
covenant with the Regional and General expressions of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
The local, regional and general manifestations of the Church function independently of one another
as they engage in their ministries, but they also cooperate and collaborate in their common mission
and witness.
